About us

Built for Woodgate, run by residents

Woodgate Community Shop is the local store at Woodgate, created for the benefit of the community and run by local residents.

About the shop

A shop at the heart of a growing neighbourhood

Woodgate is a new community on the outskirts of Pease Pottage, with 619 homes forming alongside an already-established village. Before the shop opened, residents felt the everyday inconvenience, and the social effects, of having no local store nearby.

Thakeham constructed the shop building for community benefit, and local residents have brought that idea to life: affordable everyday essentials close to home, local produce on the shelves, and a friendly place to meet neighbours.

A few things you'll find in the shop

Everyday essentials

Milk, eggs, bread, household cleaning products, and the useful bits you need close to home.

Meat from local butchers

A growing range of locally sourced meat and fresh food for everyday meals.

Flowers and seasonal treats

Flowers from a local flower shop or farm, with seasonal extras as they become available.

Cakes, bread and sandwiches

Delicious cakes from Petra, plus bread and sandwiches from Tilgate Bakery.

Resident-made gifts

Candles from Positively Glowing, made by a fellow Woodgate resident.

A neighbourly hub

A place to meet neighbours, ask a quick question, and feel more connected to Woodgate.

About the committee

Local residents helping the shop thrive

The shop was set up and is run by a group of local residents who give up their time to support the shop and help build the community around Woodgate.

The committee was established in early 2021 and has worked to bring to life the original vision Thakeham had for a community shop at the heart of the development.

New committee members are always welcome. A range of skills and experience is useful, and any member can put themselves forward to be elected.
